     Make A Difference Day - 2001-2002

Organize a Community - wide activity on the fourth Saturday of October Saturday October 27, 2001.

Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of helping others. It was started ten (10) years ago and is sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation.

All Posts and Auxiliaries in the Department of California are asked to participate in the program.

How to get started:

Plan a Project/Ask what your Community needs - Look around your community. Are people hungry, homeless, ill or illiterate? Are parks or schools dirty or neglected? No matter where you live, there’s a nearby need. You can work as a single Post/Auxiliary or as a group with other Posts/Auxiliaries in the District.

Hundreds of projects will be honored with coverage in USA WEEKEND Magazine and local newspapers.

Ten (10) outstanding projects will be honored with coverage at the Annual Make A Difference Day Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C. during National Volunteer Week in April. Each will receive a $10,000 donation from (Paul) Newman’s Own and $2,000 donations to each project in each state from Wal-Mart.

Request Support - Could your Make a Difference Day project use up to $1,000 in funding? Each Wal-Mart store has $100 to donate to Make A Difference Day projects working with charities with 501C(3) tax status. See your local Wal-Mart store manager and describe the good you can do for your community on Make A Difference Day.

NOTE: If you are requested to present a letter indicating the VFW Foundation has a 501C(3) non-profit status. Please have your Post Commander request this letter from:

involved, hours worked (planning & performing), total expenditures and what was the result. If
you want to be considered for a National Make A Difference Day Award, (You must “make a
